For some people, Christmas movies are as much a part of the holiday tradition as putting up the tree and opening presents. There is no better way to get into the holiday spirit than to curl up on the couch with a big bowl of popcorn to watch them with your family. Whether you prefer the old classics or the more recent films, you are almost certain to find Christmas movies that everyone in your family can enjoy.

No matter how many years go by, the old classic Christmas movies remain popular. Some of the favorites include Miracle on 34th Street, A Christmas Carol, A Christmas Story, and White Christmas. In more recent years, there have been a slew of new Christmas movies released that have become just as popular as the classics, if not more so. Santa Claus the movie, ELF, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and Home Alone are just a few of the more recent favorites. In addition, some of the cable channels, such as The Hallmark Channel and The Disney Channel, release new original movies every year during the holiday season.

Although they are not considered Christmas movies per se, the classic animated holiday cartoons are always a hit with both children and adults.Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, Santa Claus Is Coming To Town, A Year Without a Santa Claus, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and A Charlie Brown Christmas are timeless classics. There are also a few animated movies, such as The Polar Express that promise to be favorites for a long time to come.

Christmas movies are a great way to spend time with your family during the holidays. It doesn't matter how old you are, unless you are the Scrooge or the Grinch, you are almost guaranteed to find a favorite.

V for Vendetta Costumes Adult Halloween Costume Kit

V for Vendetta Costumes Adult Halloween Costume Kit costume kit includes: cape, eva hat, mask and belt with daggers. size: adult standard

From the beginning of time, dance has been a societal activity. Dancing in groups was popular and dances were open, no close proximity touching of partners. In the nineteenth century, about 1880, a dance, the tango, emerged in Buenos Aires. It was born in the poor areas and brothels of the city and made its way gradually into the upper class homes of the rich. Argentina was a very rich country and many of its inhabitants had vacation homes in Paris and London. They took the tango with them when they went abroad.

The origin and meaning of the word tango appears to have come from an African word. Its translation by Europeans and others in the Americas was "a closed space where Negroes gather to dance" and then later the name of the dance.

The tango that was born in the brothels of Argentina had overt sexual undertones and many considered it vulgar. As it moved from class group to class group, the dance changed. The main ingredient of the dance, the connection between the two partners, did not change. It evolved into a more sensuous, acceptable form in society. If you watch ballroom dancing competitions, you will see the tango performed by the contestants. This is a diluted version of the dance.

Dancing itself is a romantic activity. When you dance, you are in close proximity of your partner. You move for and with each other. A truly romantic gift for Valentine Day is Argentine Tango lessons for the two of you. After you have learned the dance, create a romantic setting for the two of you:

  • Create an invitation for your loved one, inviting them to dinner and dance.
  • Purchase a CD of your favorite tango music.
  • Prepare a meal of their favorite food.
  • Add candles and flowers to the table.
  • Use your best china, silverware, and crystal.
  • Push back the furniture in the living room for dance space.
  • Eat your romantic dinner.
  • Dim the lights.
  • Work off your romantic dinner by dancing the Argentine Tango.
  • End your evening of romance in a way that suits the two of you.

The Argentine Tango is one of the most sensuous and romantic dances in the world. Each partner must concentrate and focus on the presence, the body, and the emotions of their partner. They must feel each other. The Argentine Tango is a dance in which the partners can express their desire and longing for each other.

What a truly wonderful romantic gift for Valentine Day or any time of the year.

Mens Evil Jester Costume (large or x-large)

Surely you jest! Evil Jester costume features a traditional jester suit with an evil mask. Includes: black and red shirt with jagged edges and bells, red and black pants, waist sash, headpiece with bells and mask. Sizing Information: Large (42-44) - Height: 71", Waist: 36", Chest: 42" X-Large (44-46) - Height: 72", Waist: 38", Chest: 44" .
Customer Review: Not quite like the photo in advertisement (as usual)
My main reason for returning this costume was the mask & headpiece. The mask is NOT white as shown, but is a "dingy yellowish" white that looks awful with the red/black costume. A white mask like the one pictured would have looked excellent in contrast to the red/black. The headpiece doesn't stay in place, especially the "points" on top - they flip flop all over the place due to the design and being VERY sparingly stuffed with polyfill. The little plastic skulls on the ends of them are too heavy and weigh them down (design flaw). Also, be aware that the black gloves are not included. I already knew this prior to purchasing, but just wanted to make a note of it for those who weren't aware of it.
Customer Review: Cheap
Very cheap. The head part kept falling over. Don't buy unless you want to be annoyed. Vendor was great! Arrive quickly.

Dressing up in fun costumes may be associated with kids or as a kid thing to do, but that is not necessarily the case as there are a lot of costumes for adults to dress up in too. Dressing up for a festive occasion of some sort in a fun costume that you wouldn't normally wear or a costume that gives you a completely new identity that you have always wanted to try can be a lot of fun for adults too. There are plenty of costumes that cater for these kind of thing and throwing a costume party can be extremely fun and a chance to do something different from the regular parties you always have.

There are a few occasions or festivities that give you a chance to dress up, such as Christmas or Halloween for example, but these days you don't necessarily need to wait for a specific reason or holiday season to dress up in fun costumes because you can easily throw a party of your own with a costume theme. With all the costume choices available these days that you can come across, finding a costume should be no problem at all.

Costumes and dressing up have come a long way from the simple Santa suits and Halloween costumes. You can come across much more variety these days at any store that specialises in this sort of thing. Some examples of the costume types that you can come across are for example:

Halloween costumes: probably the best known costume group type that has been around for ages, and probably longer than any of the costume ranges except for perhaps the Christmas costume group. The reason these costumes are so popular is because everyone, from adults to teenagers to children, can dress up in these outfits that cater for everyone. The great thing about Halloween is that it is not just for kids alone and anyone can get into it if they wanted to. Teenagers and adults don't have to worry that the costumes might be too childish for their liking, because there are outfits for both these age groups as well. Teenagers can dress up in poodle skirts and funky looking shirts, and adults can have fun dressing up in some glamorous outfits or outrageous ones as well.

Christmas costumes: aside from Halloween, Christmas is probably one of the most well known festive seasons around and Christmas costumes have become part of the festivities for almost as long as they have been around probably. People dressing up in Santa suits are the most common sights you will come across during the Christmas season, and they don't even necessarily have to be for during a party either. Santa Claus is one of the most recognized Christmas figures around, and Santa suits are one of the most recognized costumes around too. They are appropriate for parties or for any Christmas related event.

Adult plus size costumes: costumes today come in all sorts of styles, and all sorts of sizes as well. No one person is ever built the same way, especially adults, which is why costumes these days even conveniently come in the adult plus size costumes variety. This group of costumes encompasses almost the entire range of costume types and all you have to do is select the right size for you at your nearest costume specialty store.

Sexy costumes: these come in a wide variety of styles and designs and you can select the one you prefer based on your preference and what you are looking for. Sexy costumes are not only great fun to dress up in, but it gives you a great opportunity to just break out of your shell for once and do something you wouldn't normally do at any other time. You could dress up as something you have always wanted to experiment with but might not have had the opportunity to do so in the past. You could even design your own sexy costume if you wanted. Dress up in a cute poodle skirt teamed together with a sexy top of your own creation or choice.

Dressing up in great costumes is not just for kids, even the adults and teenagers can get in on all the fun too. Simply head to your nearest costume store and find an outfit that you love and you're ready to head to your costume party and have a great time.

Adult's Kiss Halloween Costume Wig

Are you set on going with a Joker Mask for Halloween? If so, you'll find that it is definitely a great costume to consider. With the popularity of The Dark Knight, many people are considering this type of a costume this Halloween.

While the movie was definitely popular and it really brought to life the characters within it, you'll find that the Joker just about stole the limelight from Batman in the movie despite being the bad guy. Here are a few tips that will help you to choose the perfect Joker Mask this year.

Tip 1 - Pick a Mask That Flatters Your Personality - When you are trying to pick out the right Joker Mask for Halloween, you'll want to pick out a mask that flatters your personality. If you happen to be more of a ladies man in an evil sort of way, then consider going with the mask from the Caesar Romero character, who was elegant and known as quite the ladies man.

Of course he later went on to be on the wanted list of Gotham City, but he still had charmed the ladies at one time. On the other hand, if you have a dark side and you're a bit twisted, then the latest Joker portrayed by Heath Ledger could be the perfect choice. It definitely portrays the aspect of horror and the twisted side of evil.

Tip 2 - Find a Mask with Hair - Another thing to remember when choosing your Joker mask is to try to find one that has hair with it. It can be difficult to replicate the joker hair on your own, and you probably won't want to have to purchase a wig too. So, look for the masks that come with the hair attached to them so you get the entire look for one price.

Tip 3 - See if It Comes with a Costume - While the mask could stand alone as your get up added clothing will definitely help you complete the look. While it is relatively easy to come up with some great costume choices from eccentric pieces of clothing from your closet, if you can get the mask with the accompanying accessories you'll go a long way to becoming the center of attention at your Halloween party.

Tip 4 - Compare Prices - Before you decide to buy the Joker Mask for Halloween or the rest of the costume, you may want to compare prices first. There are many sites online that offer costumes and masks but be sure to shop around. While it won't cost you and arm and a leg one of the major cost factors could be shipping and this is where you will want to pay attention to the prices being offered.

Lowest prices ever on Joker Mask for Halloween. Grab yours now while they last at Joker Masks for Halloween. Better hurry because supplies are limited.

You have just a little money and don't know what to get that significant other? Look no further than the kitchen. One of the easiest, most thoughtful and, yes, romantic gifts you can give to that special someone in your life is a home-cooked dinner of all their favorite foods.

What holidays are perfect for the home cooked meal gift?

Mother's Day is the best day to show mom you love her by serving her breakfast in bed. Moms love the opportunity to stay in bed while the kids make breakfast or dinner as long as they clean up the kitchen of course.

Father's Day is a good bet with dad, but instead of serving him breakfast in bed, make him a cup of coffee and bring it to him in bed. That evening, cook up his favorite meal, whether it is steak, chicken, pork chops or whatever.

Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas are all holidays that work best if you are going to cook a big dinner for the whole family. Often, by only spending $100 to $200 on food, you can save much more by giving the gift of a feast for your family and friends. You don't have to go all out, but do enough so that those who came to dinner don't think you went cheap on the dinner so you wouldn't have to buy gifts.

Valentine's Day is the perfect holiday to cook a romantic meal for that significant other. Serve him or her breakfast in bed to start, complete with a rose in a small vase. One special way to say I love you with breakfast is to spell out the actual words with pancakes. As for dinner, a candlelight dinner with flowers, chocolates and their favorite food is a sure bet for a memorable Valentine's Day.

Labor Day is the day to give the gift of barbecuing to family and friends. It is the end of the summer and the beginning of fall. The kids are going back to school, so you can give a gift to everyone by cooking up a bunch of steaks, hamburgers and hotdogs on the barbecue, making you the hit of the neighborhood.

All of these holidays are great opportunities for you to test out your cooking ability and make some special meals for some special people. One word of warning, don't make cooking your only gift, otherwise people will start feeling you are going cheap on them and soon enough, you may have no one to cook for.

Halloween; it's fun, it's scary and it's all about frightful things that go bump in the night. It is a holiday that is filled with laughter and the happy screams of those who were spooked by the occasional Halloween decoration.

Unfortunately, Halloween isn't always fun and over the years, there has been an increase in the number of injuries and risks involved with Halloween. We have heard all the horror stories; spiked Halloween candy, eye injuries caused by flying eggs, and needles in candy apples. Although there have been cases of all of these, the incidents are significantly low compared to the major risk for children on Halloween night; children are four times more likely to be involved in a pedestrian/motor vehicle accident on Halloween.

Before you decide that you will stay in for the night, there are a few things that you can do to ensure that your children have a safe and happy Halloween.

Preparation:

It's not just the Scouts that should adhere to the rule "Be Prepared," since this is an excellent motto to live by. Before your children are completely wrapped up into the whole Halloween excitement, take them out and remind them of a few rules.

1. They should never go out by themselves. Make sure your children are accompanied with at least one adult or a responsible teenager when they go, even if they seem old enough to navigate the streets without you.

2. Remind them about traffic safety. Enforce crossing at crosswalks and not weaving back and forth from either side of the road. Also remind them both on the night and before about how to cross the street.

3. Refresh them on their manners. Don't push and cram against other children on the way to the house. I find this is one of the hardest to enforce since most children do not believe it when you say, "There will still be candy when you get up there, don't worry."

Preparing your children for the night's activities will go a long way in preventing some of the more significant injuries.

Be Bright:

Now I know this is Halloween and chances are you won't be lighting up like a Christmas tree but in the effort to stay safe, you will want to have a bit of light on costumes that are typically dark in coloring. Have your child carry a flashlight to not only find his or her way but to also alert drivers that there are children present.

Reflectors on costumes are also a great idea and there are many different lights, reflectors and glow sticks that you can adorn a child's costume with.

While you are getting your children all situated, make sure you don't forget yourself. Bring a flashlight of your own and attach a glow stick on your coat for reflection.

Lastly, stay in brightly lit areas and only visit houses that have a light on outside.

Keep the Costumes Neat:

Falls are often a common occurrence on Halloween night and the greatest cause of this, besides the rushing from one house to the next, are the long and oversized costumes. Try to find one that fits securely and tie or pin up any costumes that drag on the ground.

Try to pick a costume without a mask since masks often reduce visibility for the child. Face paint can create some pretty amazing affects and it is much safer.

Check the Candy, Twice:

I'm sure you have been there many times, trudging through the streets while the kids ask for candy from their bag. It can get a little hectic having to say no after every house but a great trick to combat this is to fill your pockets with a few pieces of candy from home. This way, the kids can have a few treats as they walk and you will be able to hold off checking the candy in the dark.

When you get home, go through all of the candy before the kids can eat any of them. Throw away any homemade treats like candy apples and cookies, or any treats that have been home wrapped such as jelly worms in a sandwich bag. Any packages that are torn or opened should also be discarded and any candy that has small holes in the wrappers should also be tossed. Sometimes it may seem like you are throwing a lot of candy away but there will still be enough to give a stomach ache or two for lasting childhood memories.

If you aren't sure about checking some of the candy, make a stop off at your local hospital. Many now offer an x-ray service on Halloween night to keep all children safe.

With these few tips, you should be able to enjoy a fun and safe Halloween with the only frightening thing being the little ghouls running around yelling, "Trick or Treat."

Disco Fever Adult Halloween Costume (Standard (One-Size))

Includes: Jacket with attached vest, shirt front and pants. Sideburns, shoes and necklace not included.
Customer Review: Disco Costume
This item was for a surprise birthday party for my husband. He absolutely loved it!

Your baby will only have one first Christmas and you want to make sure you don't forget anything that happens. Keeping memories of you baby's first Christmas can last a lifetime. Looking back as your child grows will make you remember different times in their life.

One great way to keep all the fun times during your baby's first Christmas is to start a scrapbook to save all the mementos from the big day. Make sure you take lots of pictures, from the time they wake up to when they see the first present they will open.

Be sure to get as many pictures as you can as they tear into the wrapping. These are memories you don't want to miss. If you have a movie camera be sure to set it up so the whole family can be seen.

Look back at some older home movies: you always see just one parent in the film because nobody had any tripods back then. It's so much better to see both mom and dad when looking back at the good old days.

You also want to keep as much as you can from your baby's first Christmas. Add scraps of wrapping paper, bows, and anything else you can think of to your scrapbook. Each page can be a theme and make sure you write down time and anything special that happened. This will help when you look back to remember all the great times you had on this special day.

If you have not done this before make sure you have a baby's first Christmas ornament with the year on it. This is something you want to hang on the tree every year. By keeping all of these special memories your special day will never be forgotten.

So if you make sure you keep as many different items and keep them in a scrapbook along with writing down anything about the day that you don't want forget. Just some small notes will be sure to make you remember that special day. By doing this you will be able to bring back your baby's first Christmas for years to come.

Retro Groove Dress Sexy Adult Halloween Costume 60s 70s Go Go Dancer Disco Bohemian Hippie Outfit

Go-Go Vixen Dress

This Item Includes: Retro Paisley Print Keyhole Dress

{{LegAvenueSizes}}
Customer Review: Very cute- but runs small
This costume is very cute and looks just as pictured. But I'm glad I knew Halloween costumes tended to run small and this one is no exception. I am usually a size M in ladies and ordered an XL. It fit, but quite snugly. Also it is VERY short. I realize that is the style of the 70s but I had to wear a black skirt with it in order to feel comfortable. But the print is bright and fun.

Assuming you already have a background on guitar tablature and know the basic guitar chords, you will be introduced to blues guitar chords, such as the blues movable barre chords. When the first finger of the left hand presses all six strings across the fingerboard, the finger acts as a bar. You will then be able to move several of the open chords across the fingerboard. Other blues guitar chords are A 7 B, blues rhythm guitar in C, blues shuffle boogie in E, blues rhythm guitar in A, riffs, scales and runs. These are just a few of the blues guitar chords you can get from online guitar sites.

Improvisation on the blues guitar chords can lead to other genres like rock, electrica, jazz, and rock n roll. It is unfortunate that most beginners underestimate the blues. Everyone wants to go the easy route and start playing guitar solos, but thats just wrong. To become a good guitar player and to even go halfway, the blues have to be experienced because the blues has it all.

Freeing your music

Its not that kind of blues. Nobody heres a candidate for Prozac. But if you want to be worthy of that guitar youre holding, read on and let the blues be your guide.

Wear the slide on the finger you are comfortable with, but practice wearing it on the others too. If you are using a slide guitar, do not use a pick. It will be awkward initially but you will soon get used to it.

Free Your Music and Your Soul With Blues Guitar Chords

Some tips for better blues

The basic blues guitar lessons involve the learning of the common blues introductions usually in the A key with alternates and variations. The melody and harmony lessons precede the blues rhythm. There are three primary chords frequently played in most blues the 1st, 4th, and 5th intervals or the 3 chords progression from a major scale. There will be several variations here. In the key of A, the triads are A, D, and E. For the key of B, it would be B, E, and F#.

When you have mastered the blues guitar chords, you will eventually develop flexibility and style. You can test the different blues guitar chords in different ways to create your own blues sound. And yes, this blues will bring a smile on your face.

Hold on to your blues guitar chords and practice all the time. Eventually youll make your way to the Blues Jam with your guitar. The Blues Jam is the venue to show off your talent, and this all begins with the blues guitar chords. The magical blues guitar sound will come later.

For their first lessons, beginners are given blues pieces by their instructors. This has basis, because the blues is the best place to start when you want to move forward with your guitar playing.

Dont give up on the blues

If you want a better sound when you play your blues guitar chords, use a guitar with big strings. Great blues guitarists prefer bigger frets too. This gives more space for their fingers, and there is less of a drag because there is minimal contact with the fingerboard.

Begin the blues

Learning the blues guitar chords is learning how all these work together. So you have to learn the chords by groups or chord progressions. Constant practice will attune your ear to the different tones produced.

Transformers Animated Bumblebee Child Costume

Includes: Jumpsuit and mask. Socks not included. This is an officially licensed Transformers costume.

Planning a Halloween boo-ffet? There is nothing more fun to have on hand than gross recipes for Halloween. It's great to watch your victims (I mean guests) devour body parts such as brains, deviled eyeballs, and toes. It not only makes the party fun, but it makes it memorable as well.

Here's one of my favorite gross recipes for Halloween - Yummy Brains.

Yummy Brains

What you'll need:

2 3 oz. packages Berry Blue flavored gelatin
2 cups boiling water
1 16 oz. package frozen mixed berries
1 cup crushed pineapple, with juice
1 teaspoon black gel food coloring
2 cups heavy whipping cream, whipped to stiff peaks
2 brain molds (try WalMart)

Dissolve the gelatin in the boiling water, stirring until no sugar crystals appear.

Place the berries in a food processor and pulse until the berries are very fine. Stir in the pineapple and mix with the gelatin. Stir in the black food coloring and place in the refrigerator (or the freezer if you're in a hurry) until syrupy and beginning to set. Fold in the whipped cream. Spray the inside of the mold or bowl with non-stick spray and pour the gelatin mixture into the molds. Refrigerate 3-4 hours until set.

To unmold, place the molds in a bowl of hot water; let sit a minute or two, then place a plate on top of the mold and invert. The brains will fall onto the plate and will be ready to serve. MMMM!

Deviled Eyeballs

Brains are no fun alone. So how about trying out some deviled eyeballs? Basically, these are deviled eggs with a green or black olive in the middle. In the event you do not know how to make deviled eggs, here's what you'll need:

12 eggs, hard-cooked, cooled and peeled
24 green or black olives stuffed with pimientos
Miracle Whip or mayonnaise
Mustard
Red food coloring
Tabasco (optional)

Slice eggs in half lengthwise. Remove yolks and place in medium bowl. Use a pastry cutter to mash yolks well. Add Mustard and Miracle Whip in a 2-1 ratio to create a paste. Add drops of Tabasco to your heat comfort level, then a few more. Fill egg white halves with yolk mixture, rounding and smoothing the top of each.

Push a whole pimiento-stuffed green or black olive into the center of each yolk well, stuffed side up. Use a toothpick dipped into red food coloring to draw tiny wiggly red lines on whites, to simulate capillaries. You now have some eyeballs ready to eat!

Monster Toes

Another of my favorite gross recipes for Halloween is Monster Toes. This Halloween recipe should cover your table from head to toe.

You'll first need cocktail wieners. Cut a wedge into the end of each wiener to make a place for the toenail. Cut flour tortillas into 4 inch long by inch wide strips. Roll each wiener into a tortilla strip. Secure with a toothpick and place on a cookie sheet. Bake in a 350 degree oven for about 7 minutes. After removing from oven, fill the toenail with ketchup and serve. Ewww, but yummy - all at the same time!

Halloween recipes are fun to make and even more fun to eat. There are a lot of creative ways to make gross recipes for Halloween - just use your imagination and then enjoy watching your guests eat their scary treats!

Sexy Spongebob Adult Womens Halloween Costume

Spongebob costumes are hot costumes!! Pick this halloween costumes this year and you will be the talk of the party.

Have you ever questioned why on earth we celebrate Halloween and where the thought came from? If you are like most of us, you just enjoy the fun and games, and of course treats, and haven't really given the beginnings of the holiday much thought. But the history of Halloween is a really cool story in its own right.

Very Far back in the day, about 2000 or so years ago, there lived a people known as Celts. They inhabited the area we call Ireland, and there were also some in France and the UK, too. In fact, the oral communication that is spoken in Ireland is not Irish, as you may think. It is Celtic.

In Any Case, the Celtic people had a different New Year's Day than we do here today. Their new year began on November 1st; this is probably because November marked the end of the bountiful, glorious, harvest season and the start of the cold, dark winter. Hence, it seems like a perfect time for branding a new year, right?

So, the Celtic people had a hypothesis that their New Year's Eve, October 31, was the night when there was the perfect opportunity for the specters of dead people to comeback to earth, and so the worlds of the living and the dead combined for a night. On this night, the Celtic people called on their Druid priests for insight into what was to come in the New Year. And some hypotheses of the history of Halloween include the priests' ability to know the future by discovering it from the dead who rejoined to earth.

So, the early version of Halloween, called SamHain ("sow-in"), was born. The Celts ordinarily built these vast bonfires and dressed up in the skins of animals. They assembled around the bonfires in these "costumes" and sacrificed a small amount of their crops and animals to the Celtic gods in the hopes that the gods would be just to them in the coming year.

Later, the Romans overran Ireland and the other Celtic lands, and they bestowed their own twist into what we now recognize as Halloween; subsequently the history of Halloween was changed a bit. They added a couple things into SamHain. First, they added a day called Faralia, which was a day the Romans had set aside as a day to recollect and honor those who had died before us. Then, they also included a day to delight Pomona, a goddess whose symbolic representation is the apple. Remember those days of bobbing for apples as a kid? You can thank Pomona for that tradition.

Then, Christianity came to the area, around the 800s. The Pope at the time, Pope Bonaface, declared November 1st All Saint's Day, which is still renowned as a Holy Day by the Catholic Church. The Church often times tried to replace pagan holidays with related holidays in order to placate the pagan people who wanted festivals, but also to make Christian-based celebrations. The night before All Saint's Day, SamHain to the Celts, began to be called All Hallow's Eve or All Hallow's Mass. Finally, it became recognized as Halloween.

As the holidays approach, good memories can inspire hopeful expectations. For many residents, friend and family gatherings for food, gifts and parties encourage us to look forward to the coming days of Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Day. Yet, how we celebrate these events might well determine whether, or not, we are able to maintain memories that we will want to keep.

"The holidays are seen as a family time, and should be viewed as such," stated Tim Brown, Associate Clinical Director for Community Counseling Services in Bucyrus. As we gather for these holidays, Brown sends out the reminder that "Alcohol and drug abuse doesn't mix with this."

Unfortunately, the celebrations become an excuse to drink too much, or to misuse drugs.

Tim Brown explained that some say, 'I'll drink because it's Christmas' or 'I'll drink because it's New Years.'" Connecting the dots of substance abuse, Brown concluded, "You might as well say, 'I'll drink because it's Monday!'"

Friends and family can play a part in helping their loved ones stay sober by welcoming everyone at the parties into the activities, and by not serving alcohol. However, each person must also accept his or her responsibility in the next days.

CCS Substance Abuse Counselor, Tammy Burkett, offered several practical tips for staying sober through the holidays:

"Be wary of the people and the places where drunken experiences have occurred before."
"Find alternative ways to celebrate the holidays that will not include alcohol.
Take time over the next weeks to evaluate what the holidays mean, and what significance they should have. Attending a holiday church service, for instance, might help in these decisions.
If a person is early on in his or her recovery, find an Alcoholic Anonymous meeting to attend.
Do not adopt a negative frame of mind about celebrating in general; rather, celebrate the progress made in recovery to this point.
Pay attention to the "triggers." Be alert to songs, places, emotions or events that will provide an excuse to drink.

When a person begins realizing the need to cut down on drinking, or is wondering if he or she has a problem with alcohol, it is time to seek advice.

XL Glow Bones Skeleton Halloween Costume for Dogs

The spooky glowing skeleton Glow Bones Costume stands out on a dark Halloween night!

Snowglobes have intrigued the hearts of men and women as far back as I can remember. And why wouldn't they? Not only are they creative, they all seem to take on their own life and lavishness. Just one little shake and you can't help but be hooked.

But I wouldn't bring you over here just to hear a story about a snowglobe would I?

Great reasoning!

So what is this about?

At Christmas time, consumerism abounds promising happy hearts for young and old alike who make this or that special product the gift of Christmas. Heartwarming Christmas movies become the box office attraction for movie goers all over the world. TV takes its annual holiday classics to the masses and advertising moguls flood our eyes and emotions with enchanted commercials that would even melt the heart of Frosty with their warmth. And who can overlook those wonderful Christmas carols that serenade us everywhere we go.

"May all your Christmases be white," one carol states.

It seems the world is alive with the magic and aglow with a spell of enchantment.

I have one word for all this.

SNOWGLOBE!

You ever notice when you shake a snowglobe that you can't help but get lost in its solemnness and elegance. Snow has never looked so pretty and peace on earth seems to be reflected in each flake that falls. Sometimes you just want to crawl inside and lose yourself in its panorama of tranquility.

"If life were only like this snowglobe,"
one can't help but reason.

I wonder if this was a little of what Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was feeling when he penned the poem that became the song, "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day"? Wrestling with the loss of his wife a couple years prior in a house fire, the crippling wounding of his son in the American Civil War that still raged as he heard the bells that Christmas day so long ago and took up his pen to write,

"I heard the bells on Christmas day
Their old familiar carols play,
And wild and sweet the words repeat
Of peace on earth, good will to men.

And in despair I bowed my head:
"There is no peace on earth," I said,
"For hate is strong and mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good will to men."

Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:
"God is not dead, nor does He sleep;
The wrong shall fail, the right prevail
With peace on earth, good will to men."

If we are not careful, we can become convinced that the message of Christmas is all about making life for us like a snowglobe.

It isn't, you know?

The message of Christmas is really about the chaos we all want to escape, not in the snowglobe enchantment we all seem to chase this time of year. When you think about it, scripture tells us that Jesus had the snowglobe, but He crawled out of it to enter our chaos.

The next time you get swept away in the magic, remember the real message of Christmas. It's about God entering our world in all its chaos, not its enchantment. When you shut out all the noise this time of year and hear the sounds of bleeding, broken and lonely hearts all around you reminding you of this, you are now seeing Christmas as it was meant to be seen.

It was not an enchanting castle where Christ would be wrapped in robes of royalty that He chose for His bed that first Christmas night, it was a stable and a meager manger, wrapped in swaddling clothes.

Doesn't sound much like a snowglobe, does it? But then, neither does our lives.
